My story started on May 8th 2002 at 7:40 pm when my mommy's water broke. She told my daddy, they picked up their stuff (most of it was already packed, mommy was ready!) and they got to the hospital at 8:45 pm. At the first internal exam, she was 2 cm dilated and her contractions were every 5-6 minutes. A little while after, Mamielou and Aunt Sonia arrived and gave my dad a hand in helping my mom cope with the pain. This wasn't going to be easy! Around 11:45 her contractions were anywhere between 2 and 5 minutes apart and she was 3.5 cm dilated. But at 1:00 am my heart started decelerating and so the nurse had to install a wire on my head in order to keep an eye on my heart rate at all times. Because of this, my daddy could not give my mommy massages in order to help ease the pain (they had learned the Bonapace method which had been working very well until now). And so my mommy asked for some Nubain (a drug to ease the pain). Before giving her the drug, the nurse did an internal exam again and my mommy was now 6 cm dilated! That was the reason why my heart decelerated! I wanted to come out!! With the drug, my mommy was able to gather some energy for the end. At 2:15 am my mommy said that she really really had an urge to push so the nurse checked and she was right! I was about to make my entrance (or exit)! At 2:30 am the doctor and nurses were ready so mommy could start pushing with the encouragements of daddy, Mamielou and Aunt Sonia. At 2:54 am I came out and my daddy cut the umbilical cord.
